چکیده
Yersinia enterocolitica is the cause of gastrointestinal infection in the overwhelming majority of recognized cases, although extraintestinal sites are occasionally involved. We report a case of Y. enterocolitica septicemia and empyema complicated by the adult respiratory distress syndrome. The organism was also recovered from the patient's feces by alkaline enrichment and persisted through at least 19 days of antibiotic treatment.

Thigh Abscess Caused by Yersinia enterocolitica in an Immunocompetent Host
Yersinia enterocolitica is primarily a gastrointestinal tract pathogen known to cause gastroenteritis, although it may produce extra-intestinal infections like sepsis and its sequelae. However, primary cutaneous infections are extremely rare. We present a case of Y. enterocolitica thigh abscess in an immunocompetent adult. The portal of entry is unclear in this case. He did many outdoor activit...

Yersinia enterocolitica is a rare cause of extra-intestinal disease. A case in a 60 year old butcher with hepatic cirrhosis who developed suppurative arthritis of the shoulder caused by Y enterocolitica is presented. There was no evidence of gastrointestinal infection or septicaemia. The severity of the illness was associated with various factors, including the underlying disease, the type of o...
متن کاملRapid identification of Yersinia enterocolitica in blood by the 5' nuclease PCR assay.
Yersinia enterocolitica accounts for 50% of the clinical sepsis episodes caused by the transfusion of contaminated red blood cells. A 5' nuclease TaqMan PCR assay was developed to detect Y. enterocolitica in blood. Primers and a probe based on the nucleotide sequence of the 16S rRNA gene from Y. enterocolitica were designed. Whole-blood samples were spiked with various numbers of Y. enterocolit...
